Perhentian Island (Pulau Perhentian) - Terengganu
Perhentian Island is located 20km off the state of Terengganu in the northeast corner of the peninsula. The pair comprises of two islands which are Pulau Perhentian Besar and Pulau Perhentian Kecil (Besar means big, kecil means small) which are revered by sunbathers.
A traditional fishing enclave, the islands provided monsoonal refuge for 15th century trading ships. The Perhentian are the least developed of Peninsular Malaysia’s resort islands. The old Malay wooden fishing village on Perhentian Kecil, with its brightly painted boats, is particularly picturesque at dusk. This is when the local gather on the beachfront to chat. However, the prefect white, powdery beaches lapped by crystal clear waters are the island’s major attraction.
The crystal clear waters are great for all nature lovers and those who enjoy scuba diving, snorkeling, deep sea fishing, swimming, wind surfing, sailing, boating, and canoeing. It is surrounded by a virgin jungle, swaying palm trees, white sandy beaches, warm sapphire blue waters, and a colorful coral garden.
